Welcome to Kind Human Yoga, right here in the heart of Coloma. We're a small-town studio in the best sense — a place where you'll be greeted by name, where nobody's judging your poses, and where the community on the mats feels a lot like the community outside our doors: friendly, down-to-earth, and glad you came.
Whether you are brand new to yoga or have stepped on the mat countless times, we welcome you to our community. We offer daily classes in a variety of styles, taught by experienced, caring teachers who meet you exactly where you are.
It is our hope that you'll find a class time, style, and teacher that brings you to your mat excited — and that you leave with whatever you came for, whether that's relaxation, stretching, strength, a reset, invigoration, or release.
You don't need to be flexible. You don't need special clothes or any experience at all. You just need to show up as you are — that's always been enough here, and it always will be.
We can't wait to practice with you.
I'll be the only beginner and everyone will be watching me.
Here's a secret: everyone in class is far too busy trying to remember which foot goes where to watch anybody else. And our teachers offer options for every pose, so you'll never be left guessing. Beginners are kind of our favorite people because it means we get to vicariously experience falling in love with yoga all over again as we watch your journey unfold.
I don't know anything about yoga.
Perfect — that means there's a use for us teachers! You don't need to know a downward dog from a regular dog to walk in the door. Our teachers explain everything as you go, in plain English, no Sanskrit pop quizzes.
I don't have the right clothes or gear.
If you can move in it, it counts. Leggings, sweatpants, that t-shirt from a 2009 fun run — all welcome. We have mats and props you can borrow, so really all you need to bring is yourself.
I'm too old / too out of shape / too [fill in the blank].
Yoga meets you where you are — that's the whole point. Slower classes, gentler classes, classes where you spend a good chunk of time under a weighted blanket (yes, really). If you can breathe, you can do yoga.
I'm not flexible AT ALL.
That's like saying you're too hungry to go to dinner. Flexibility isn't the price of admission — it's one of the things you might pick up along the way. And it changes day to day. Every single person in class started somewhere, and some of us still can't touch our toes on Mondays.
I haven't been to class forever.
The mat doesn't keep attendance, and neither do we — there's no penalty box for time away. Life gets full; that's exactly what yoga is for. Come back to the class you used to love or try something new, and we promise the only thing you'll hear from us is "it's so good to see you."
I tried it once and I didn't like it.
Fair! But one class is one teacher, one style, one day. That's like trying one song and deciding you don't like music. With daily classes in a bunch of different styles, odds are good there's a version of yoga that fits you — and we'd love to help you find it.
I'm just not a woo-woo yoga person.
Fair enough — and truth be told, we probably sound just a little bit woo-woo around here sometimes. But here's our promise: we'll never force it on you. Plenty of our regulars would never call themselves "yoga people" either. If a teacher offers an intention or a moment of stillness, you're free to take it, leave it, or spend that time thinking about lunch. Come for the stretching, the strength, and the hour to yourself. The rest is always optional.
